Mariska Karasz

 (1898-1960)

Mariska Karasz moved to the United States from Hungary when she was 16 years old. She brought the folk art fiber traditions with her and began developing her own style as her artwork progressed. Instead of only using yarn, she would incorporate new textures, such as hemp, horsehair, or wood into her hanging pieces. Kohler Foundation acquired a textile screen, Untitled, and after conservation, the piece gifted it to the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts in Cedarburg, WI.
