Margaret Ponce Israel
(1929-1987)
A painter, sculptor, and ceramicist, Margaret Ponce Israel, included her Cuban traditions in her work. Her work was mainly exhibited in NYC galleries, but there are pieces of the permanent collections of Brooklyn Museum, Everson Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Arts and Design, and the Whitney Museum of American Art and Racine Art Museum.
The Racine Art Museum already owned an extensive collection from Ponce’s studio including sculptures and paintings, works on paper, teapots, and many sketchbooks. When they became aware of an opportunity to acquire more of her artwork from the family of Ponce and an interested collector. Kohler Foundation was able to acquire and conserve 45 pieces for already stellar collection at the Racine Art Museum.
