Gerda Meyer Bernstein

(b. 1923)

Honored to be working with internationally known artist, Gerda Meyer Bernstein, Kohler Foundation is honored to work to place her work that is connected to  historical, political, and social environment of its day and  reflecting its conditions, and pressing on the nerve of our times.

On one of the last boats of the Kindertransport leaving Germany during the holocaust, Bernstein has dedicated much of her work to Holocaust remembrance through her provocative installations focusing on genocide, the ravages of war, and racism. She continues to create art at her warehouse studio on Hubbard Street in Chicago, IL.

Bernstein's work has been exhibited across the globe including Berlin, Nairobi, Madrid, New York, and Chicago. Kohler Foundation has placed her work at Rockford Art Museum and Illinois State Museum. She is truly and international treasure.
