Beth Lipman
(B. 1971)
In 2018, the Kohler Foundation worked with Beth Lipman to acquire her piece “InEarth” (2017) for the Museum of Wisconsin Art. “InEarth” combines the genres of still life and landscapes to juxtapose the current age with ages past. This piece continues the artist’s research that began at the Department of Paleobiology and Department of Botany at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History
Later that same year, KFI approached the Museum of Art and Design in New York and the John Michel Kohler Arts Center about acquisitions. “Laid Table with Cycads” was selected by the Museum of Art and Design. JMKAC chose “Margin for Error” for their permanent collection.
Lipman has exhibited her glass pieces at many prestigious museums and galleries in the US and abroad including the Museum of Glass (WA), Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Art and Design (NY), Chrysler Museum (VA). Her work is in the permanent collections including the John Michael Kohler Art Center, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Corning Museum of Glass, NY Museum of Glass, and many others. She has been honored with residencies and grants including the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship, US Artists Berman Bloch Fellow, and a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant.
